"This was a glorious production when it first opened. It is even better now that Summer is icumen in"
Daily Telegraph
The worlds of theatre and television collide in a unique life imitating art event as Summer Strallen, from Channel 4's hit soap Hollyoaks, takes over as Maria in THE SOUND OF MUSIC at the London Palladium.

In reality, Summer is no stranger to the West End stage, having been a leading lady in The Drowsy Chaperone, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Boyfriend and Guys and Dolls.

The score for THE SOUND OF MUSIC touches the hearts of all ages and brims over with some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage including My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music.

Summer Strallen will not perfrom Monday evenings or Wednesday matinees. Aoife Mulholland (also a finalist in 'How do you solve a Problem Like Maria') plays Maria on these days.

Please Note: Upper Circle Row A and B at the Palladium are classed as restricted view with a handrail.

Tucked away on the first floor of the Berkshire hotel, Ascots restaurant & bar is a real discovery! Wood floored, matched by wood & glass panelled walls, combine with striking tables and chairs to combine perfectly the traditional and the modern. Ascots has just been awarded its second AA rosette, and Head Chef Steve White has the confidence to take a simple approach to his dishes using ingredients that compliment rather than clash with each other. Service is up beat and friendly, presided over with great skill by Michel Daunat. In all it is perfect for a discreet drink, or a dinner for two.Two courses meal

In the 1880's the site of the present theatre was home to Hengler's Circus. The current theatre was built in 1910 and presented variety. It was originally named The Palladium before changing to the now familiar name The London Palladium in 1934.

The London Palladium became known to many millions in the mid-1950's with the weekly television variety show "Sunday Night at The London Palladium", a format that was revived some years later in the late 1980's with "Live From The Palladium". The theatre has also been used for concerts - perhaps the most famous one being the 1960's Judy Garland/Liza Minnelli concert which was televised on television.

In 1931 the London Palladium saw the emergence of a group of comedians who together formed what became to be known as the famous "Crazy Gang" who occupied the theatre from June 1931 through to Oct 1939.

From the 1980's in particular the London Palladium become associated with large scale musicals such as, "The King and I" with Yul Brynner and Virginia McKenna, Barnum with Michael Crawford, "Singin' in the Rain" with Tommy Steele, the short lived "Ziegfeld" with Topol, "La Cage Aux Follies" with George Hearn and Denis Quilley, the Opera North/Royal Shakespeare Company's production of "Show Boat", "Oliver!" with Jonathan Pryce and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" starring Michael Ball.
